Have your child never seen a bird's nice nest yet ?
Haven't they seen those little cute eggs ?
And have you shown them their innocent featherless babes, always with crying opened mouth....?
If not, such moments may be the greatest surprise gift that you are giving your child.
( Because those chicks and your child are unavoidable parts of the virgin nature. But you are not, as you are a greedy human only, part of the present business eyed global love !!! )
I was waiting eagerly to show her a nest. Because I was a brutal 'bird- man' in my childhood days. Even Dr.Salim Ali, the bird-man of India wouldn't have loved but 'destroyed' so many bird's homes in his early days !!!
It was a great surprise for us (the so called nature lovers of our staff room) that a nice looking "Red whiskered Bulbul" again came(the second time) this year for their nesting. The bushy fat leafy plant in front of the school building was proper for them to make a home.
After one week we found two little violet eggs peeping through the leaves.
I switched on my mobile camera.
She (my child) was so happy seeing the photos of those ripe Jambul-like eggs.
After some days I showed her the photos of the featherless chicks with opened bills, waiting for their mother coming with food.
She demanded me to show her those baby birds.
I agreed. But it was 14 kms away from home.
But the next day I found the nest empty.
Those babes would have been taken by some naughty primary school boys.
In my childhood days I also have stolen many bird babes from their mothers (of bulbuls, house sparrows, hill mynas and anonymous rare birds).I have given them more than enough food. But no one survived.
(On this March 20,the international day to love and think of the fast disappearing house sparrows, I apologize to the mother nature.)
Nothing can replace a mother, even the whole world !!!!
